After years of hype about gigabit speeds that will let you download full-length movies in mere seconds, 5G is close to becoming a reality. Last year gave us a taste of 5G as Verizon launched a home broadband service using the next-generation wireless technology and AT&T brought 5G service to a dozen cities.
This year will see the launch of actual 5G wireless networks along with phones that will run on them. Verizon will flip the switch
on its mobile 5G network April 11, beginning in parts of Chicago and
Minneapolis. Verizon’s first 5G smartphone will be the Moto Z3 — sort
of. On March 14, the Z3’s 5G Moto Mod will be available to preorder.
That add-on will enable 5G connectivity for the Z3. Verizon said its 5G
service can be added to any unlimited plan and will cost an extra $10 a

As the leader of a healthcare technology company,I have the responsibility to make sure my co-workers and I are ready for anything, in both the best and the worst of times.
While having our company headquarters in Puerto Rico gives us advantages that I wouldn’t trade for anything, Hurricane María last September brought about circumstances impossible to foresee. Our building flooded, power and telephone lines were disrupted and supermarkets and hospitals were closed for weeks.
To put the devastation into perspective, Hurricane María completely destroyed more than 87,000 homes in Puerto Rico (with more than 385,000 other homes sustaining major damage). Some 250,000 Puerto Rico residents were displaced to the mainland United States, in some cases permanently.
We were one of 10,000 businesses affected by the hurricane. And yet, we knew that maintaining normal operations in the face of such obstacles was non-negotiable, given the vital technical services we provide to insurance companies and medical providers. And while not every tech company will have to deal with the catastrophe of a hurricane, there will almost certainly be unforeseen obstacles that test every company’s resilience.
We’re in the middle of hurricane season again.
Now that we’re in the middle of hurricane season 2018, here are the lessons we learned that other companies facing disasters similar to ours — especially companies in technology — can do to “weather the storm” when disaster strikes.

New York, NY – The agency overseeing IT and telecommunications services throughout the City of New York has issued cable-TV giant Charter/Spectrum a notice of default, and will immediately commence a new audit of the corporation’s Franchise Agreement, LaborPress has learned.

The Department of Information Technology & Telecommunications’ [DoITT] decision to slap Charter/Spectrum with the default notice comes after the National Labor Relations Board [NLRB] found that the telecom — one of just three major service providers in the city — engaged in unfair labor practices in relation to a work stoppage on Paige Avenue in Brooklyn back on April 2, 2014.
Specifically, DoITT issued its default notice against Charter/Spectrum as a result of the NLRB’s determination that the telecom “coercively interrogated employees regarding the events of April 2, 2104.”
No timeline has yet been given for completion of the new audit. In a previous audit completed earlier this year, Charter/Spectrum was found to be using an overly broad interpretation of the term “located in New York City” as it refers to Article 17 of the Franchise Agreement and the use of contract workers
